More than 400 years ago a band of families set out with not much more than a hope in their hearts. They had a hope of a better life. One where they could know God more, lean into Him more, and freely live this life that God had promised them.
They sailed into the unknown. Trusting only in this hope sown in their hearts by the One who sowed it there. This hope that was an anchor for their souls carried them through many unforeseen challenges. In the midst of perilous days, when they could not see far beyond what was immediately in front of them, they still remained steadfast to this hope of the promise of a new life, a life closer to God.
We are the inheritors of their diligence. We are the beneficiaries of a people who held firm to the promise of God.
Today we sail through our own perilous waters. Each of us is dealing with challenges we never imagined. These challenges are both shared and specific to us and our families.
But take heart….Hope still remains.
In the midst of wavering times, He remains unwavering.
Jesus is the anchor for our souls, for our lives. He will shepherd us into not only God’s promise of eternal life, but also the promise of His plan for us in this life.
Today, let us be thankful that God, who does not lie, has made this promise to us. Let us hold firm to this promise of a better life with Him. Let each of us display the trust and diligence our forbears did.
