Brothers,
If you remember nothing else from this study remember this, Christ is calling you to Praise because PRAISE DEFEATS FEAR!
We saw this in action when David faced Goliath.
Israel as an army had been paralyzed by fear when they faced the Philistines and Goliath. Goliath had drawn their focus not as an army against him but as each man possibly facing him alone. He called out Israel’s best for one to one combat, winner take all. This was a brilliant tactic. It was insidious in its effect. Each Israelite man looked at the giant before them, and measured Goliath’s strength against their own and kept coming up short. This calculation in fear was repeated again and again until their whole army was paralyzed in place. They were defeated in their mind and in their heart without Goliath ever picking up his sword.
And then David shows up. Not even a soldier, smaller and younger than his battle-hardened brothers, but he was not paralyzed by fear. He stood there in front of the same giant everyone else saw but he ran a different calculation in his head. He did not look at the strength of this giant and measure it against his own. He looked at all that Goliath represented, the challenge embodied standing there in front of him and he measured this giant against God’s strength and sovereignty and in that scenario God always wins!
From his youth, God had given David understanding of how He worked. Through David’s words we can see God had taught him the habit of praise. In the midst of that storm, facing his giant, David remembered how God had helped him before. This gave him confidence; it gave him peace in the moment. By his words we could see David was exalting God in that moment, and unlike his fellow soldiers, his eyes were not on fear but drawn towards God. He knew where his real strength came from.
This habit of praise changed how David approached his challenges. It will change how you approach your challenges.
