Brothers,
My wife and I landed in Aruba Friday and just after landing and a moment before everyone springs up to get their luggage, the wife of a man sitting next to me appears to be having a seizure. This situation put things into perspective really quickly. As a nurse and doctor passenger rushed to her aid there was a moment that she appeared to be dead. A husband and his family stand by helplessly as they watch their mother and wife gasping for air.
The prospect of losing a loved one is an awful feeling and the reality of losing one is worse.
As terrible as this could have gone for this woman and her family, God has made a way out.
Just like He made a way out for Lazarus after he had been dead in a tomb for days.
From Nazareth to Lazarus, God was unveiling His plan of redemption. When “Our Father” turn’s death into life on command the word’s of Isaiah; the prophet of old rings forth, “He will swallow up death”.
The apostle Paul is sharing with the Corinthian church what he would share with us still today.
“Death is swallowed up in victory.” Death my friends is not the end of the story, it’s the beginning of the next chapter.
From all appearances the woman on the plane is going to recover but it was a poignant reminder for all of us that death awaits us all.
However, Jesus commands us, “Fear not for I have overcome the world”.
Triumphantly, through Christ, we cry out!
“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting”?
