Brothers,
Yesterday we read an uplifting story in Nehemiah. Remember the “R’s” (return, rebuild, restore, repent, rededicate, redemption). Unfortunately, the story did not end with the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem to God.
Nehemiah returned to Babylon, and then when he came back to Jerusalem, he found that the people had returned to their old sinful ways. In today’s verse, we read that the people were not keeping the Sabbath - just one of the sins Nehemiah discovered.
Unfortunately, the tendency to take God’s blessings for granted, or even outright disobedience, is not limited to those in the Old Testament. People sin, and they do it over and over again. Fortunately for us, God has given us a way to spend eternity with Him despite our sinful nature.
Let us give thanks that despite our penchant for sinning, God loves us and has given His Son for our salvation.
