Guywire's 40 Day Study - Praise - Day 24

Brothers,

If you've spent any time listening to contemporary Christian music, you're likely familiar with the first line of today's Scripture passage. Chris Tomlin and others have released memorable versions of his song "Forever", which begins with the words, "Give thanks to The Lord, for He is good". The Christian music industry makes it a point to remind us to give thanks. In this study, Guywire encourages you to practice thankfulness as a necessary part of your praise. You probably learned to say Grace as a young child, giving thanks for your food. Jesus is seen many times throughout the New Testament giving thanks to God His Father. In this country, we even have a day set aside and dedicated entirely to giving thanks. You gettin' the idea that giving thanks is important?

Have you ever sat down and tried to chronicle (see how I did that?) all the things in your life you've had to be thankful for? Consider: The Word says that God is the provider (or giver) of ALL good things. So, if it's not a bad thing, then it is a good thing and deserves a thankful acknowledgement. I challenge you to sit down quietly and take an hour to remember all the good things. While you're at it, can you imagine what your life would be like if God were NOT good, but bad? Let that one soak for a few minutes. I guarantee your "thank you" list just exploded!

The point is this: we are called to praise Him, and a necessary component of that praise is an ever-thankful spirit, fueled by constant remembrance of His goodness and mercy. Now, I know there are days...or even seasons...when this is difficult. Sometimes summoning up a "thanks" can be tough, especially when the storms are raging and it feels like you're gonna lose it all any second. This is when you must intentionally remember that He has safely seen you through the worst of times before, and He can be trusted to do it again.

So, give thanks to The Lord for being with you in the worst of times...and the best. Give thanks to The Lord, because He is your salvation. Give thanks to The Lord, because He is your shield and deliverance. Give thanks to The Lord, because He has numbered every hair on your head...and your family's too. If for no other reason, give thanks to The Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.

Your Brothers in Christ,

Guywire Ministry
