Brothers and Sisters,
To me it is troublesome when non believers attempt to minimize and trivialize The Bible as an accomplished storybook with some historical truths but principally as a “literary classic.”
No doubt The Bible is a masterful work. But verses like the one today are not meant to be cute or entertaining.
Friends, I know not of a passage of scripture that is so “in our face”. These are marching orders. We are not encouraged here. We are commanded to take up arms and we are at war with the evil one. “Stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood..."
God has provided us with not only a battle plan but all the supplies necessary to defend ourselves and defeat the enemy. We are told to put on the Full Armor of God which includes offensive and defensive components.
We are encouraged to be strong in our own strength, wait no, it was the strength of our 401K, the size of our house, our salary...it is None of these. We are called to be strong in the strength of The Lord and the strength of HIS might.
By accepting Christ as the sacrifice for our sins we receive the helmet of salvation and nothing goes better with a helmet than a sword, which is The Word of God. When Jesus Himself was tempted by satan He deployed The Word of God. We also receive the breastplate of righteousness through Christ because it is only through Him that we are counted righteous.
Christ has made the Full Armor of God possible for all of us, therefore we do not boast in our own strength but in that of King Jesus.
In closing, we are asked to pray for each other. I don't know about you but one byproduct of this crisis we have all been living through is prayer. Let’s keep storming heaven.
