The psalmist is calling out to God for direction. Not in the usual way. He doesn’t ask for a map. He doesn’t ask for a compass. Yet he still seeks the same sense of direction these instruments provide in life.
He is asking to be taught the direction. He is asking The Lord for learning. He is asking to be poured into so that he may walk sure footed on a path that is only provided by God and is only found to those who make themselves available to Him.
This way the psalmist speaks of is understanding. It is a knowing that each footfall brings you closer to the destination each person on this earth should long to gaze upon.
The way is the course laid out for each of us by God. He has a path through this life that is both shared by all and at the same time unique to each of us. We can only find this path when we first approach The Word, Jesus with an open heart and acceptance. This is the first signpost on our journey.
Each of us walks a course through life of growing closer to God and maturing in our faith. Along this journey we gain understanding and wisdom for who God is and how He will guide us along the years in this life. Until eventually, we reach our long sought destination. We stand in the presence of God and look upon His face.
The psalmist knew there was a way to God. He discovered the key to walking this path. He sought God with a learner’s mindset.
